Abiquo is a startup developing an open source platform for sharing data and resources across heterogeneous systems. Built using new disruptive technologies (Grid/Cloud Computing, M2M, Virtualization and Distributed Data Processing)
Join us at Abiquo’s First Developers Day
We released a first Beta version of our distributed platform in September.
We are currently working on a new version that will be released in January and we want to invite you to participate in Abiquo Developers Day, a first event to get to know a more practical version of our platform.
The event is thought for computer geeks and curious technologists that want to learn about our platform and learn how to build distributte processes.
To participate you will need a laptop with Linux or Mac OS and is better to have previously installed a Java IDE (Eclipse, NetBeans, etc.). But if you don’t have a laptop, come anyway and tell us. We’ll find one for you to use.

IGT 2008 - The World Summit of Cloud Computing
Our CTO, Xavier Fernandez, is attending at IGT 2008, it is your opportuniy to talk with him! :D
If you see the guy of the photo, ask him about abiquo!

You can follow the experience of Xavi in the IGT at twitter
Earn up to $4,000 programming open source!!!
(and that’s my strategy to get you interested :D)
As you know, in abiquo we are releasing a set of tools (under an open source CPAL license) that allow to:
- Deploy cloud platforms: you can create a cloud anywhere without having to depend exclusively on amazon, google or any other external provider… you can create a cloud using exclusively your own hardware if you wish so.
- Perform intensive calculation: obviously distributed and yes, with grid computing technologies :D
- Manage and store huge volumes of data (guess how!) with new paradigms of distributed storage.
And, the best… almost all of our development will be totally free (as beer).
A month ago we started releasing our platform and now we are working on generating a community around it. To do that, we want to offer more than an IT infrastructure. And what we want to offer now is examples that demonstrate how our platform works and how it could be useful for others.
In abiquo we are super-swamped developing our products, so we decided to outsource this part. And that’s why we offer up to $4,000 to any person or group that will:
- adapt or develop an application or service using our platform
- offer the resulting code under a OSI approved license (we don’t expect to make money selling that code, only be able to use it as examples without restrictions)
- offer a complete documentation both for users and developers
Examples? Maybe the easiest thing is adapting intensive calculation applications: renders, transcoders… and that kind of stuff. But we are open to any application that is reasonably useful :-)

Once the 3 mentioned conditions are fulfilled, and in abiquo we have verified that everything works, you can send us a bill and we’ll pay it ;-)
We are saying “up to $4,000” because the final figure will be negotiated according to the work intensity and the expected impact of your application.
If you are interested or know someone that could be, please contact dmarino[at]abiquo[.]com
Diego Mariño. Co-Founder & CEO
[Update] - I forgot to say that, obviously, making a good development of this kind implies receiving an offer from abiquo to become part of our team :-) (with offices in Barcelona and Silicon Valley)
New community tool: IRC Chat
Now, you can talk with us on #abiquo channel on irc.freenode.net server.
